To better protect employees assets, access to your Microsoft 365 account requires Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) be configured. This means when you go to sign in to your Microsoft 365 account, you will be required to authenticate yourself by approving your sign-on using the Microsoft Authenticator app.


Please follow the instructions below to enroll your account for MFA, or to verify and update your existing settings.

 

Login to configure MFA (https://aka.ms/mfasetup)

 

You will see the following screen with your Microsoft login email address. If you do not see your login email address, it will be your work computer’s user (for example, the login for “First Last” is LastF@ode.state.or.us)


 

Select “Next”

You will then be asked to enter your password:


 

Enter the password you use to login to your work computer and select “Sign in”.  If you have already configured MFA, you will be prompted by your existing MFA method.


 Select “Next”


At the “Keep your account secure” screen, you will be prompted to download the Microsoft Authenticator App -- if you have an ODE issued cell phone, please see the following guide to get it installed:

After the Microsoft Authenticator app is installed, click "Next"


 

In the app, chose to add a Work or School account.  Click "Next"



In the app, chose to scan the QR code, and choose "Next" in the app.  Click Next to proceed.


You will receive a prompt in the app to approve the sign in:


Once you have approved the sign in, you will be able to click "Next"


Next, you will be asked to provide your phone number as a backup method of authentication:


Please enter your phone number including area code, and choose to either have a code text to you, or a phone call where a code will be read to you, and click "Next".


You are now configured for MFA using the Microsoft Authenticator app.  Thank you for your assistance in helping to secure our environment.  We know this is a big change and appreciate your patience during this process.
